We had the opportunity to live in Brive-la-Gaillarde, a small commune in the Correze in south-western France. Five years and 3 kids later, our travel itinerary has changed from museums and cathedrals to parks and open-space attractions. Yes, baby friendly, toddler friendly…all in all kid-friendly attractions.
Here is a list of 10 kids attraction you can enjoy with your family in and around Brive-la-Gaillarde.
1) Les Petits Trains de Seilhac
At only 30 km from Brive-la-Gaillarde, these petits trains will prove to be more than just a fun day out for the whole family, more so for the little boys. Read more of our adventure to this little train paradise here.
2) Les Jardins de Colette
Located 20 minutes outside Brive-la-Gaillarde in Varetz (19240), Les jardins de Colette is a great place to appreciate nature and it’s beauty. Family walks through the garden and maze will prove to be either fun or frustrating (it’s all about the memories right!). They also host games with its educational maze and other organized kids activities from 6 years old.
3) Les Jardins de Marqueyssac

4) Lac du Causse Correzien
This lake/park1 is open all year round. From jogging, leisurely strolls, kids playgrounds, picnics, kayaking to paddlle-boarding, Lac du Causse is perfect for the whole family. View Lac du Causse images to note down the accessibility options available .
5) Lac de Miel
The place to be in summer and a lovely scenery in winter. To get to the lake, one would have to take a 30 minute drive through beautiful villages and open countryside to Beynat (19190). A fee is paid to use this lake during the summer as it is a camping site.
6) Brive Aquatic Center
Equipped with a 500 sq. meter leisure pool, wading and playing area for kids, a 20 meter rapid river and even waterfalls (and many more including a cardio-training fitness room). Read more of Brive’s Aquatic Pools and you can also checkout other pools and aqua parks in the Correze here.
A charming little red town, as the name suggests, rouge is red in french. Houses in this village have been constructed from the local sandstone, which is very red in color. Dating back from the 8th century it is surely one of France’s beautiful historical villages.
8) Water Aquarium Perigord-Noir
This freshwater aquarium is located in Le Bugue (24260) and is the largest private freshwater aquarium in Europe to date. With 3 million liters of water and more than 6000 fish, it will surely fascinate the little minds.
9) Jacquo Park
Also located in Le Bugue (24260), and an hours drive by car from Brive-la-Gaillarde, Jacquo Park is a must-visit in the summer promising a whole day of family fun. Naps and picnics, unlimited access to rides and it’s own aqua park. Read all about our summer trip to Jacquo Park here.
10) Le Complex
On rainy, cold and winter days, Le Complex is the perfect play-center for the kids. In addition it also accomodates a salon, bar and restaurant.
